Costume photos

This is the costume we are using for our artist/character to wear in our music video.
The combination of 'lumberjack' checkered-shirt, slim, dark jeans and white trainers was chosen in order for the artist to look like a humble, ordinary young man. The costume allows the target audience (14 - 20) to relate to and recognise the costume, as it is standard high-street fashion but is also quite distinct and may even create a slight contrast with the 'older' generations that could appear in the background of the video.

Location shots

The above shot or a shot similar will be used in our music video as a transitional shot to link two shots together. We will hopefully capture the glare from the sun through the trees to be used for a transition.

We have decided that the above location will be used in our video, as it is easily accessible and conveys connotations of every-day life and appears humble.

The above location will probably not be used in our video, as permission to film was not granted by the shop-owner.

Treatment

The scene opens on a view of a lift, in which the artist sits on an inflatable chair looking humble and modest, poised with his guitar and ready to play. As he begins to play, the lift closes and the artist is sent down. This is then followed by continuous shots of the artist sitting on the same chair, but in many different locations as the song progresses, suggesting that he is travelling on a physical and metaphorical journey. The idea that the background changes but the artist stays in exactly the same state as he performs introduces the notion that this character is isolated/closed-off from the world, which is reinforced and supported by the sombre tone of the music and lyrics. As the artist plays, pedestrians walk on by with no regard for him. The video concludes with a shot of the same lift coming up after the music stops and the doors opening to reveal the chair but with the artist no longer sitting in it. The chair will then proceed to deflate. The scenes and settings used will create a naturalistic tone, and will be purposefully chosen as recognisable/criterion backdrops for the target audience – mid-teens to early twenties – allowing them to relate and feel empathy for the character and themes represented in the song and video.

Props + costume

Props needed for the video will be:
Acoustic guitar
Inflatable chair

A specific costume has not yet been chosen, but to reflect the isolated persona of the character and naturalistic tone, it will be recognisable modern-day teenage clothing, allowing the audience to further relate.

Further ideas

We have decided to use one of the locations, the lift, as the start and finish of the music video. We will have the video commencing with a shot of the performer inside an open lift sitting on the chair and the door closing as he starts to play.
The music video will then end with a shot of the lift door opening just after the music has stopped, revealing the empty chair. The chair will then begin to deflate and the video will end.

Initial music video ideas

Song - The Aquatic Escape by Gryphen Ford
Genre - Indie/pop, acoustic
Idea - Performance-based video with performer sitting and playing/singing on an inflatable chair. Camera stays still/position of permormer and chair doesn't change; location changes regularly and rhymically with beat of song. Lots of things happening in different places around performer.
